Tara and Wills Wedding

I went up Castle Hill tonight to scout for locations as I’m shooting a wedding there tomorrow (Gosh ain’t I organized) and it’s been well over a year since I shot a wedding there. I was just amazed at the light, a photographers dream. (Why am I not recommending this as a location??) I took a few shots, but I did a little tweaking to this one - I love it. (That’s my son Drew BTW)

Can’t wait to shoot the wedding tomorrow… will post some pics within the week…. Townsville is actually a pretty cool place, pity it’s unbearably hot for about 4 months of the year, however the payback is the best winters in the world?

I recently did a photo shoot for the Clelland family. I decided on Pallerenda (OK it is probably my favorite spot) to do the shoot, it’s an ideal location as it has a lot to offer. Also when it comes to shooting kids; water, sand and rocks = fun! After a few stern words from mom about not getting wet we got things underway, and fun was had by all. I know how challenging photographing kids can be, but it went rather smoothly! A few of my favorites:

Townsville Weet-Bix Tryathlon

My daughter, Merri and a friends son (Connor) recently took part in the Townsville Weet-Bix Tryathlon. It was the first time it has come to Townsville, and it was also the first time my daughter has been involved in a sporting event outside of school. The whole event was great as it was more about encouraging kids, rather than being competitive. There were no places, and everyone won a medal.

I’m sure this event will grow every year. The great thing about living regionally is that there was no stress when it came to finding a parking spot, or getting a good spot to see the kids in action. The Tryathlon was for kids aged 7-15. Kids aged 7,8,9,10 did a 75 meter swim, a 3km bike ride and a 500m run. The older kids did longer distances.

I took my camera, and I got a few snaps of Merri and Connor in action:

Andrew and Juneva’s Wedding

Andrew and Juneva’s wedding was a rather intimate affair, with three guests, a celebrant and a photographer (Me!) The ceremony was at the Palmetum gardens, which we were lucky enough to use as it was technically “closed” due to the damage caused by Yassi. (Cyclone) They weren’t after heaps and heaps of photos, so we took things easy and found some nice intimate spots. Beloe are a few from the photoshoot.

Muscat Furnell family portrait

I shot the Muscat Furnell family recently. I thought we’d do the shoot near Pallerenda at around 5:45. When I arrived I saw that their was a wedding on (pic below) – I’ve never shot a wedding (ceremony) at this location, but doesn’t it make for a really nice backdrop? I’ll miss a lot about Townsville when we move down South!

Anyway getting back to the family portrait… Jonty was the star of the show, and being around 18 months he had energy to burn!

It’s always challenging getting shots of toddlers when they won’t keep still for too long!

Magnetic Island Wedding

I recently shot a wedding on Magnetic Island, (Natasha and Larry) which is an awesome location for weddings, holidays, even a day trip. I got picked up from the Ferry terminal and taken to the bride and Groom that were staying at “Pure Magnetic” accommodation, which is a Villa style type of accommodation right on the beachfront. The entire set of Villas were booked out, by the bride and groom – so everyone was catered for in style!

When I arrived the bridesmaids were busy with final touches of hair and make up, with all the bridesmaids in matching robes. I went to see what the boys were up to, and no surprise here – just hanging and having a couple of cold ones….

As Pallerenda was a likely location for there actual wedding day, I suggested shooting there. Everything is really green and overgrown, which makes for a good backdrop. Multiple Family Portrait Shoot!

I did a family portrait a while back, and it was a bit of an unusual one in that there were three families involved. The Lyne, Botham and Bortinui families. After much discussion we decided to shoot at one of the families homes as it would prove more difficult shooting on location when there many children involved.

Took these images of my kids at Balgal Beach not too long ago, it was a perfect day for photography – no harsh sun, and the cloud cover wasn't too thick, so the light was nicely diffused. I wish the lighting was like this more of the time!

A new project

I am starting a new project entitled "a look back in time"

This is a personal project which involves uploading images of my kids that were taken a while back – basically their earlier years….as a photographer I (naturally) take photos of my kids, so for those of you "out there" who have kids and appreciate photography by looking at these images you may hopefully see the value (investment) in having your kid/s professionally photographed. (Whatever "stage" they are at) As cliche as it sounds you can never go back in time….anyway I've made a start……:-) Click on the image below….

I photographed Luke and Zoe's wedding back in 2009 – I'll never forget it, it was a hot and humid day on Valentines day…..the location was tropical Townsville and boy did I sweat that day! Since photographing the wedding (sorry no pictures – I shot the wedding as a contract photographer, and for copyright reasons I'm unable to use these images) They have had a baby boy by the name of Ethan.

We did an modern pregnancy shoot, (below) and more recently I took some photos of the family and Ethan. As a photographer it's extremely rewarding to be involved and document someones story.
